Psyche Ward: The Incredible Hulk

Marvel often does a brilliant column on their news section of the website about the psychology of various superheroes. Though I have yet to read it, there is one on the Hulk just released, and as everybody knows Bruce Banner has a complex and troubled psyche which often results in his multiple personality disorder. This should prove to be interesting.

Hulk Versus Death's Head

A short strip by Simon Williams. Truly fantastic.

Artist Profile: Simon Williams

In my opinion, Simon Williams really captures the escence of the Hulk in all his images. He is among my favorite artists ever since I picked up a Marvel UK mag (to be particular, Spectacular Spiderman Adventures #100) and ever since then I have constantly searched for new artwork by him of the Jolly Green Giant. In the issue, Spider-Man and the Thing team up to bring down the Hulk, who is on a rampage. Simple story, but it was executed perfectly. To see some of his truly riveting pictures, check out his deviantART gallert at-

www.soulmaninc.co.uk

or, click on the select images above. While at his gallery, I reccommend checking out his Hulk vs. Deaths Head story- It really captures the feel of the 70's Marvel UK mags!

Watch the Incredible Hulk Online!

For those who are fans of the 197o's show that everybody raved about, the Incredible Hulk, you can watch the original episodes at this website-

http://sharetv.org/shows/the_incredible_hulk_1978/watch

If you are expecting a huge, action packed epic, you will be pleasantly suprised, as this show deviates from the normal superhero program and goes down a more dramatic and heart-touching path. This is brilliantly executed, and I would reccommend it to anyone who is a hard-core fan, or someone just out for a new TV show. Enjoy!

The Toad Men

Has anyone got one of the volumes that collect the first 6 issues of 'The Incredible Hulk'? because if you do, I am sure you will remember these villians, and how terrible an idea they were. I remember mostly their idea to conquer earth- taking the moon out of orbit and making it fall into earth. With magnetic machines. I would say that these villians are the worst that could possibly ever exist. Also, they're aliens. You would kinda expect to see a better-looking foe, wouldn't you?
I think that this is the worst villian that Stan Lee ever dreamed of- even worse than Mysterio, who, you gotta admit, was bad with the fish-bowl and everything. Though, you have to expect the popularity of these villians in the 60's- they were colourful, which was good, and they had a sort of whacky sense about them.
What did you think of these villians? reply with a comment!!

Superhero Web-Ring

This Blog is now part of a superhero webring, one that is maintained by me. So far there is one other, the Amazing Spider-Man blog. There will be many more characters coming- all blogs sharing the same goal of trying their best to present you with an up-to-date list of graphic novels, as well as fan work and random buzz.

Midtown Comics

I am going to Midtown Comics today- I will get Ultimate Hulk vs. Iron Man: Ultimate Human Premiere HC and Marvels HC Premiere Edition. I will post a review of both and tell you what I think once I am done reading them.
Have you read them? tell me if you have and say what you think.

Villian for Hulk 2: the Leader?

So who thinks that the villian for the next Hulk film will be the Leader? I've been looking at various posts on other blogs, and they either think that the villian will be Doc Samson (the guy Betty was dating in the movie) or the Leader. It was not made clear who her boyfriend was, so I think the most probable villian will be the Leader. You see his transformation in the movie- Sterns has some gamma-infected blood drop on a graze on his head.
What do you think? Tell me!

the Abomination

Who thought that the movie Abomination was cool? I thought he looked great for a movie villian, but he did not for the Abomination. He had almost nothing to do with the comic. First of all, the origin was completley different- in the comic, it was accidental. He stood in front of one of Banner's machines, trying to find a way to make the machine work and find it's secrets. In the movie, he just wanted to be young again.
Also, in the comic, Blonsky was a russian spy, not a russian/english american soldier. What the abomination looked like at the end was completley different- have a look- They are almost completely different!
Don't get me wrong- the movie villian was great, but I would have liked him to have an origin that resembles the comic more.

10 Must-Read Graphic Novels

I found this peice of news on the Marvel website- It is a required reading list, featuring 10 0f the best Hulk graphic novels. I have some of these, and I intend to get some more from this list. I am going to Midtown Comics tommorrow to get Ultimate Hulk vs. Iron Man: Ultimate Human and Hulk Visionaries: John Byrne vol. 1. I'll tell you what I think tommorrow. The required list is:

  1. Hulk: Planet Hulk
  2. Hulk: World War Hulk
  3. Hulk: the End Premiere
  4. Hulk: Tempest Fugit
  5. Hulk Visionaries: John Byrne vol. 1
  6. Hulk Visionaries: Peter David vol. 1
  7. Hulk vs. the Marvel Universe
  8. Ultimate Hulk vs. Iron Man: Ultimate Human Premiere
  9. Marvel Adventures Hulk vol. 1
  10. Incredible Hulk Omnibus
Do you have any of these? Drop a line to tell me what you think.

Hulk Poster is a Tribute to ASM #50!!

Just saw this the other day and thought I'd tell the world- The new Incredible Hulk poster is infact a tribute to the Amazing Spiderman #50, which had a story entitled 'Spider-Man No More!' and it was about Peter Parker giving up the life of a superhero. Much of Spider-Man 2 was based on this particular issue. I think this was great of the movie poducers to do, because it is just another nudge nudge moment that you think about. There are many of these moments in the film as well.
Can you think of any other posters that might possibly have ripped off a famous comic-book cover? Reply in the comments section with both titles and issues. I will look forward to it!!

Peter David

Has anyone read any of Peter David's work? I read in 'Classic Marvel Superheroes' that he was the best Hulk writer out there. It also said that it introduced many ideas to the Hulk saga, and that Peter David came up with the idea of different Hulks based on different persona's of Bruce Banner. These are as follows:

  • The Savage Hulk
This is the green-skinned Goliath that we all know and love. He has low intelligence, but is very strong and could easily overpower you on a battlefield. The Savage Hulk is one of the strongest personalities. As he gets angrier, he gets stronger.
  • Joe Fixit (the Grey Hulk)
This was the first Hulk that ever appeared, due to a misprint. He does not have Banner's knowledge, but he is quite clever and crafty. He is very selfish and has desires of getting rid of Bruce Banner. He is not as powerful as the Savage Hulk.
  • The Professor Hulk (the Merged Hulk)
This Hulk keeps Banner's intelligence and has the strength of the Savage Hulk. He is probably the most powerful Hulk of all, but he has mediocre emotions and can be very brutal when he wants to be.
  • Mindless Hulk
This is the Hulk without anything to do with Banner. If anything, Banner cannot influence this Hulk in anyway at all. He looks like a monster and has very low intelligence, but he can show emotions, like love.
  • The Devil Hulk
This Hulk is more reptilian in nature and is perhaps the most selfish and evil of all. This Hulk represents Banner's own childhood fears and is the most malevolent and destructive version of the Hulk.

I thought this idea was very interesting and I decided to get some Peter David graphic novels- I got:

  1. Hulk: the End Premiere
  2. Hulk Visionaries: Peter David vol. 1

Hopefully, I will be going back to Midtown Comics to get some more- namely the Hulk Visionaries: Peter David series. I want to see some more of Joe Fixit, as this is the first Hulk that Peter David wrote about.

The Hulk Library

Hi! Me again. Has anyone visited the Hulk Library yet? It is a fantastic web-page detailing everything you could ever want to know about the hulk, and is very detailed. The website looks very professional, and if you like the sound of it already, that is not all.
They have a comic-cover gallery, they have a fan-art gallery, they have a pin-up gallery, they have polls, merchandise, fan-fiction (which is were I took the screenplay that I posted) and so much more!
They even have a sister-site: the She-Hulk Library. This is much the same thing, but it is still worth checking-out.
Have a look and tell me what you think.

Fan Hulk Model is Better Than Hollywood's

This new amazing piece of fan-art was digitally created by a swedish artist named Jonas Thornqvist, has been claimed as better than the movie version. I think this one looks more brutal, and would do well as a model for the 'Savage Hulk'. The one in the Ang Lee movie would do well for a 'Professor Hulk', and the 2008 one for a 'Mindless Hulk'. I would prefer for the movies to use different personsalities- I hope they use this concept.

Incredible Hulk: the Monster and the Man Screenplay by Ryan Ayers

A Monster
A Man
A Hero
An Enemy
What am I, really?
The green behemoth known to the world over as the incredible Hulk?
The mild-mannered scientist known to the world over as Bruce Banner?
Or something in between?
...
A Monster
A Man
A Villain
An Enemy
What am I really?
The green behemoth known to the world over as the Abomination?
The hot-tempered leg breaker known to Santa Fe as Emil Blonski
Actually...I’m BOTH!
...
Why won’t they leave me alone?! Why won’t he leave me alone?!
Why do they always have to make me angry?! Why does he make me so angry?!
They know that when Hulk angry...Hulk SMASH! It’s time to go find the
Hulk...and SMASH HIM!
(child crying) (zoom out) (child surrounded by burning building)
Little girl: Help! Help me!
(Hulk is jumping along when he sees the burning building...and hears the child’s
cries) (He bursts through the wall) (child’s freezes in terror)
Hulk: Hulk save little girl.
(Hulk grabs girl and jumps out of building just as the room they were in
explodes) (As Hulk lands he sees Abomination waiting for him)
Abomination: How freakin’ heroic!
Hulk: Leave Hulk and little girl alone!
Abomination: Maybe I should take advantage of the situation. While you protect
"little girl", I’ll beat you till you’re just a big green stain on the ground!
(battle ensues) (Little girl is no longer afraid of the Hulk. She sees who the real
bad guy is.)
Little girl: Beat him Hulk-man! Don’t worry about me anymore!
Hulk: Hulk happy for that. Hulk will SMASH ABOMINATION!!
(I’ll leave the next few lines to your imagination. You decide what the fight looks
like...I’m not a very good choreographer)
(Hulk knocks Abomination into stratosphere)
Hulk: Little girl okay?
Little girl: Yeah, I’m alright...
Hulk: What happen to little girl’s house? Little girl play with matches?
Little girl: No, I’d never do that. My mom got into a fight with the landlord...and
he...he kidnapped her. I was going to call the police, but then the house was on
fire and I was trapped.
Hulk: Hulk will find little girl’s mom.
(Hulk is about to leap away, but he stops, because he realizes something)
Hulk: Hulk not leave little girl alone. Climb on Hulk’s back and hold on tight.
(little girl tells Hulk everything she knows, and is able to lead him to a location
that her mother might be)
(Hulk tears open a wall and lifts up the floor of the house that they are in)
Little girl: MOMMMMMY!!
Little girl’s mom: BABY!
(lady sees the Hulk and screams)
ahhhhhh!
Little girl: Mommy, mommy, it’s okay! Hulk-man saved me!
Little girl’s mom: What?!
Little girl: LandlordburnedthehousedownIwasinthehousehulkmanjumpedinandsavedmefromthefireandfoughtareallyscarrygreedguythatwasbi
ggerthanhimandsenthimintotheskyandthenwewentlookingforyouandwe found
you!
Little girl’s mom: Thank you Hulk.
Hulk: Why landlord burn house down?
Little girl’s mom: He wanted to collect on the insurance...
Hulk: Hulk smash land lord!
Little girl’s mom: Maybe we should leave this to the police.
Little girl: Yeah Hulk-man, I don’t want you to get in trouble because of him.
Hulk: Hulk not do things this way. Hulk smash. But little girl want Hulk to call
police...Hulk will. P0LICE SMASH LANDLORD!
(Lady and little girl giggle. Hulk has shown two qualities that he’s rarely
exhibited: passiveness...and humor)
(cut to cops carrying landlord away) (little girl, little girl’s mom, and Hulk
standing by)
(Hulk grunts at landlord as he’s being shoved into car)
Little girl’s mom: Thank you Hulk, for everything!
Hulk: No need to thank Hulk. Hulk do damage...Hulk save people to undo
damage.
Little girl’s mom: I don’t care what the government thinks, you are a hero.
Hulk: Thank...
(Hulk starts to transform into Bruce Banner) (Little girl frightened)
Bruce Banner: ...you.
Little girl: Where’s Hulk-man?!
Bruce Banner: Whenever I get angry, I turn into the Hulk. When Hulk gets happy,
he turns back into me.
Little girl: I miss Hulk-man!
Hulk: Don’t worry. I have a short temper. You’re bound so see the Hulk again.
Well, I’d better get going...and into some decent clothing.
Little girl’s mom: Thanks again.
(little girl walks up to Bruce as he’s leaving and stops him before he gets too far)
Little girl: Lean down!
(he immediatley drops to his knee) (she kisses him on the cheek)
Little girl: That was for Hulk-man.
(Bruce blushes)
Bruce Banner: Hulk appreciates it.
(Bruce smiles and walks away)
(as he walks into the horizon, his shadow is cast...and it’s the Hulk’s)
Meanwhile...
(Abomination lying amidst trees in a forest somewhere in Oregon) (crickets chirp)
(He awakens)
uhhhhhh.
(crickets stop chirping)
Abomination: Hulk...I’ll get Hulk for this...
(eyes roll back into head, and he falls back down) (crickets continue chirping)
THE END... For now

The Incredible Hulk Movie Review

I loved this movie! It was an accurate representation of the Incredible Hulk and how he tries to evade the American Army at all costs. The story revolves around Bruce Banner, who is on the run from the government. He is living in Brazil and is trying to find a cure. In the US, General Ross hires a Russian soldier named Emil Blonsky. He is aging, and feels bad about his position and wants to be promoted. Back in Brazil, the Army finds Banner. Ross sends Blonsky in, and when he sees the power of the Hulk, he wants it! the Ross gives him a serum, which will make his body very fit. However, it starts a transformation. Blonsky wants to complete the transformation, and so he finds Banner curing himself in a man's laboratory, named Sterns (who becomes the Leader). He takes some blood of Banners and injects it into himself, and he becomes an Abomination.
What I loved about this movie was all the hints at the comics. It touched upon the 70's show, we saw Stan Lee in a very funny cameo, and even a cameo by Tony Stark! We also see some hints at the Ultimates and Captain America. I also loved the humour, and am eagerly awaiting a sequel.

*Spoilers are following*

We even see Tony Stark approach Ross, where he says- "We are forming a team". This can only mean that an Avengers movie is in the making.

*Spoilers ending*

I highly reccomend this movie. If you loved this, then you will definetly love Iron Man, which has a similiar aura.

SFX: 9.5/10

Plot: 7.5/10
